How to upgrade HP iLO 4 directly from webservice with Unix host

I have been struggling on last days, to upgrade an iLO 4 from a HP ProLiant ML310e Gen8 with an old iLO 4 version in use (1.22), with an Unix host installed, so I decided to make this tutorial on how to upgrade an iLO 4 without having the following Windows systems:

  • Microsoft Windows Server 2008 Foundation Edition
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 Foundation Edition
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2008 W32
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2012
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2012 Essentials
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2016

First of all, in version 1.22, if you went in Firmware option, you will notice quickly that both links are broken, seems like after 2015, HPE was created and they moved all the content from HP to HPE.

To help others with previous 2015 firmware versions, you must download the latest firmware exe file:

Now that you have the exe, you must open directly from a program to open file archives, such as 7-Zip or WinRAR, and you will see all the content inside of that exe file:

After this, you just need to extract the bin file, and upload it directly in iLO 4 webservice firmware part.

I hope that this could help others trying to achieve the same.
